Kerala is a South Indian state that is bound by Western Ghats on the East and Arabian Sea on the West. Wayanad is an important district in Kerala that is covered by dense forests and greenery. Wayanad has a salubrious climate. It receives rainfall from South West monsoon. The mean average rainfall in this district is 2232 mm. Lakkidi receives the highest average rainfall. During the monsoon season, high velocity winds are common. There are dry winds during the months of March-April. The relative humidity is high and can go up to 95% during the South West monsoon. The climate can be classified as hot summer between March- May, South West monsoon during June –September, North East monsoon between October- November, cold weather in December- February.

The flora of this region is characteristic of Western Ghats. There is a good growth of plantation crops like cardamom, pepper and coffee. There is a luxuriant growth of wild trees which give shade to the coffee plantations. They also give support to the pepper plants. Eucalyptus trees grow well in this region. The oil is extracted from these plants and sold commercially. The climate here is ideal for the luxuriant growth of forests and trees. Arecanut palms and jack tress are also grown here. Tea plantations can be found in plenty here. The climatic conditions are suitable for horticulture on a commercial scale. In order to promote horticulture, the Kerala Agricultural University runs a Regional research station at Ambalavayal. With rapid deforestation, the flora and fauna are slowly vanishing from Wayanad. One can spot wild cats, jackals in the forest areas of Wayanad. Elephant bear and other wild animals stray into the dense forest region of Muthanga in Wayanad from the surrounding Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary of Karnataka and the Mudhumalai wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu.

Sulthan Bathery is an important town in Wayanad which is tourist center. This town has a great historical significance. Sulthan bathery climate is similar to the rest of Wayanad. There are a number of tourist spots in and around Sulthan bathery.
