Paris - Train connections between France and its European neighbours were disrupted Tuesday morning after thieves made off during the night with cables used in signalling, French state rail company SNCF said.
High-speed Thalys trains, which run from Paris north to Brussels and Amsterdam or to Cologne in Germany were affected by the delays.
The Eurostar, which connects France and Britain, was also running behind schedule, as were some trains running between Paris and northern France, SNCF said in a statement.
Cable theft has spiked globally, driven by a surge in prices for copper and other metals used in cables used in everything from telecommunications to transport.
The cables are stripped and the metal sold to syndicates that supply the international black market. |
